Bathroom leak detection

Water travels before it appears, so the mark on the ceiling is an unreliable guide to the fault above it.

What usually brings us out

  • A stain on the ceiling under a bathroom that grows after a shower
  • Grout or sealant going dark along one edge
  • A shower tray or bath that flexes underfoot
  • Damp at the bottom of a wall on the other side of the bathroom

How we go about it

  1. 1Moisture mapping to show how far the water has actually travelled
  2. 2Comparative testing: tray, waste, overflow and seals one at a time
  3. 3Dye testing where two possible sources sit close together
  4. 4Borescope through a small hole rather than a hole you can see

Bathrooms, showers and wet rooms in one visit

Each fitting is tested separately, which is slow work. The engineer has the full day for it, so the testing is not cut short.

  • Excellent Leak Detection and Repair

We had a major water leak of approximately 220 litres per hour and, with a holiday booked only a few days later, we urgently needed someone to find and repair it. […] Frank arrived at our house. He was extremely polite, professional and clearly very experienced. He quickly set up the equipment, carried out a tracer gas test and pinpointed the leak to an area just outside our garage underneath the driveway. […] The whole job, from arriving at our house to finding and repairing a 220 litre-per-hour leak, was completed in around three hours.

Shortened. The marks show where text was left out.

  • Fast, effective leak diagnosis and repair

Fundamentally, the engineer (Mark Pavitt) identified the source of the leak, repaired it and had our house back up and running within the same day. As part of achieving this, he kept the damage to a minimum (only having to cut out sections of the kitchen plasterboard ceiling). He cleaned up the debris, was polite, cheerful and informative of root cause and actions throughout the day. I think the key to success is having an engineer that has expertise in both leak detection and plumbing.
